Having a more authentic, less coddled PCT hike is easy, just go SOBO.  
There is certainly a taste of all that magic the hikers have come to expect while passing the herd, but before and after that, the PCT groupies will not have you on their radar.  
SOBO trail magic is way more authentic and often administered by everyday people who have never heard the term 'trail angel'.
Of course Haven's like the Dinsmore's are in a class all by themselves and I recommend far exceeding any suggested donations.
