[pct-l] powerhouse fire

The portion of the PCT that has burned since Friday has coincided almost exactly with the section that a few of us have been working on (brushing and digging tread) both last December for a week and just 9-10 days ago. Didn't actually leave the area (Green Valley/Lake Hughes) until after the fire had already started. Got some interesting video and photos from the Anderson driveway and vicinity....
With our recent work up in flames and much more effort needed to restore the now damaged trail, it's an interesting reminder that my preferred reason to put energy into anything is not so much the end result, but rather the joy of the process itself. While maintaining trail has clear and obvious benefit to those who walk it afterwards, an experience like this week's fire make the work more like an Andy Goldsworthy art piece, fleeting in its lifespan and finding creative fulfillment in the present moment rather than attachment to the longevity of the finished form.
