This is a last minute invitation to any hikers who may not have see my
first invite about a month ago, and who find themselves in the San
Francisco Bay Area this coming Monday, 7-29-13. We're putting together a
BBQ at my place so that folks can get to meet our illustrious Japanese JMT
enthusiast, Yoshihiro Murakami.
He's a clinical psych professor in Japan who spends every summer hiking our
own beloved John Muir Trail and he's a regular member of the PCTL. He
claims the weather is better in California than he gets in Japan where
occasional typhoons take the place of our deep spring snow and swollen
streams for adding a bit of danger to a hike. But besides this, he's a
great guy and a terrific hiker. After many publications in his chosen
field of study in Japan, namely psychology, he's just published his first
book on backpacking and this year I've got him roped into seeing a bit more
of the West, the Wild West as it were. He'll be backpacking with me and
friends in the Wind River Range and Glacier NP. He may not find the
weather as sweet as we have it in CA, but those mtns are incredible.
So, if you're interested in meeting Yoshihiro and the other hikers already
coming, and sampling some of his famous pizza, or feasting on my smoked
ribs, grilled chicken or tofu, or sampling "John Muir Wine," give me a note
off line and I'll send you directions. The house will be open anytime
after 1pm with a potluck dinner at 4pm.
The John Muir National Historic Site is across the street so if you want to
add a visit to the birthplace of many of our National Parks, come early as
they close at 5pm. Hiking is also easy as the Bay Ridge Trail dips down
off the ridge at the Muir House. If it's hot, bring a swim suit as the
pool is a great cool down after a ridge hike.
On Wednesday, 7-31-13, Yoshihiro and I will be driving up to the PCT where
it crosses Hwy 80 north of Lake Tahoe and there's room in the van for any
hikers who need a lift back to trail.
Give me a holler if any of this works for you.
