I don't like having the same insulating material in my insulation layer and
my sleeping bag/quilt.

Living here in the Pacific NW, I hike with a down sleeping bag and a
synthetic insulating item (an early Polarguard Delta version of the
Patagonia Micropuff; I have a vest, jacket, and parka for different
conditions).

FWIW, the synthetic jacket feels warmer faster than does the down, but the
down is ultimately warmer for the same weight (or lighter for the same
warmth). YMMV.
