[pct-l] Solo Female - Leaving Girlfriend At Home

If you brought a SPOT Satilite Messinger you girlfriend could have reliable daily communication. It would give her "peace of mind" every day - and only weighs 5.2 ounces. I'm sure that she would greatly appreciate that.  I was able to send an OK message to my wife every night when I reached camp (since I was riding a horse, I could not hitch into the towns). She would get a beep on her cell phone to let her know that an OK message would be on her computer. She could  then see my location on Google satilite. You mentioned that you would bring a cell phone instead. I had one of those too - it is very rare to get reception while on the PCT. It was great to have it when I did. You could certainly use it in towns.

I am an in identical situation but instead it is my girlfriend of 2.5 years who i'm leaving behind. She most certainly does not want to do it with me, and is not happy when I tell her I might not be in touch everyday.
I am loathe to take a spot messenger with me, as I don't want the extra weight and as it's not like we'll be crossing the antarctic so I don't think it's really necessary. I plan to have a cheap pay as you go cell phone that I will turn on if I think I'll have reception to send a quick message, other than that I will communicate when I'm in a trail town.
