There is an interesting book called "The Last Season" by Eric Blehm,
that chronicles the life and last summer of 28 year Sequoia-Kings
Canyon NP wilderness ranger Randy Morgenson. While on patrol hiking
cross country, he met his demise falling through a snow bridge and
died trapped between the packed snow and the running stream (according
to later conjecture). They searched for quite awhile and didn't find
confirmation of his death until several years afterward, when a hiker
found his old radio and part of his park service uniform with name tag
attached in an obscure drainage.
