[pct-l] solar charger or batteries?

Today I was looking at some Radio Shack battery packs.  One said it would
charge a cell phone 3 times.  Has anyone used one of these instead of a
solar charger?  The one I looked at was very light, while it seems good
solar chargers run around 8 oz.  By using a phone/GPS sparingly and having 3
re-charges in hand, it would seem to be feasible to make it from one supply
point to the next where batteries could be purchased.

 

I am new to backpacking, so would appreciate input from those of you who
have experience.
