I loved menstrual cups and used them exclusively for the last decade of my
reproductive years.  So much easier than tampons and pads, and nothing to
dispose of.  You can use them for longer time periods as well, given that
they collect menstrual flow rather than absorb it - plus you aren't going to
be chafing.  There are a number of brands - you might look online at reviews
and then give one or two a try during the time you have before going out
hiking.
