I too will miss Ed. I met him in 2009 on my thru-hike when he was
completing his ride with Primo. Over the years we became good friends and
last fall spent about 3 wonderful days hiking from Black Mountain into
Idyllwild. He was a great conversationalist with great values.

I am so sad to hear about Ed dying. When I met him ,back in the 80's, he and
Jereen were still racing long distance on horses. I believe what he really
invented was the wonderful "Adventurewagon" It has a permanent raised top
that is aerodynamicly designed to avoid the problem with wind that the
Westphalia is famous for. It has a wooden interior, like a boat. It can sit
at a trailhead with the refrigerator running for over a week. I could go on
and on about the differences. I have beendriving mine for 26 years and hope
to drive it forever. Once two of us lived in it for a year traveling
throughout the US. It was on that trip that I learned that people did long
distance trails. He will be missedMarmot
