I tried to find a number for police in Lake Morena and had no luck. I called the campground and spoke with the head Ranger there.
Ranger was very nice. He said Jon Phipps (aka Rodknee Dangertrail) was NOT the person admitted to the hospital, despite what the trailjournal said.
He gave me the name of the hospital, and I called there. They didn't have a Jon Phipps there.
I did give the ranger my name and phone number.
There's no answer on Jon's phone. (Which he keeeps turned off and only uses in emergencies while hiking.)
So now I wait to hear from the trailjournals poster (whom I emailed) and/or anyone else who knows more.
For what it's worth, Jon has 15,000 backpacking miles and is a retired Army Special Forces. He's not without resources of the knowledge, experience, and brainpower sort.
This is posted just in case you wondered if those people who mail boxes to trails get bored or lack for excitement.
