[pct-l] Post walk across America. The PCT Next?

I have to say that I disagree that walking for a cause is somehow
antithetical to a wilderness experience on the PCT. People hike for all
kinds of reasons, and I welcome Richard's enthusiasm for LGBTQ equality and
his passion for walking to the Pacific Crest Trail. I concede the point
that many of us go into the wild to distance ourselves from politics; but I
can tell you that what may seem like a political issue to some is really
not a political issue for others. For me, partly because I am described to
some extent by those five letters, equality doesn't feel like a political
position at all, yet it is something that I care deeply about. Sure,
equality for gay and lesbian people is something the Supreme Court is about
to decide on, and this-or-that piece of legislation may or may not be
constitutional, but that doesn't make this a *purely *political issue.
There's politics in cancer research and protecting habitat for endangered
critters too, but I think we would all welcome someone walking the PCT for
those causes.
On the subject of walking across the United States and equality, please
check out http://www.facesforchange.com/ ; Joe Bell, the father of a 15
year old gay teen that tragically commited suicide after being intensely
bullied by his classmates in LaGrande Oregon, has just left on a 5000 mile
journey to New York to raise anti-bullying awareness. Best of luck Joe!
