Coming from a heavy-trucker's point of view...
Since our school's students can spread out a bit, our leaders carry two-way
radios to communicate with the "sweep" at the back. Works great between two
people, too!

I did, but in my experience, they have a very limited range, especially in
wooded terrain. Still, they're better than shouting.
