In 2009 I hiked Oregon in July. I never once used my down jacket --
we're talking some days close to 100 degrees and many nights so warm
I had to sleep on top of my bag -- so I mailed it home from Cascade
Locks.
The day I walked over the Columbia River, the weather took a turn for
the worse. I continued into Washington for the month of August
freezing my ass off. I could not stop to sit down or my hands would
freeze and become useless. I hiked faster. I got really tough and
hardened. I don't need no stikin' jacket. I don't need no stinkin'
rain coat. I was pretty miserable, cold and wet though.
Soon as I bought a rain poncho in Snoqualmie Pass the sun came out.
I'm pretty sure the PCT hates me.
