- John Muir's ghost
Actually if you know anything about John Muir then you know that he was
quite the inventor and loved high tech devices. He received awards for his
inventions of handmade clocks, thermometer, and automated desk. He also
invented a water powered saw, one version of which he used to cut up
timbers to make his cabin in Yosemite. His home had many advanced
technological conveniences. You can go and visit it to see them. His
management skills and agricultural acumen allowed him to turn his
father-in-law's farm into a successful operation that allowed him the
luxury of his many hiking treks. So don't assume that he was some vagrant
Luddite living full time in the woods or on the trail. Yes, he didn't use a
GPS but there is no mention of him using maps and a compass either.
