[pct-l] Bikes & horses

Ken,

I've been following along with the posts
on http://www.facebook.com/SharingThePct?fref=ts where some have been saying
that the bike / horse issue would not be an issue IF the horses were trained. I
am not a horse person, although I do love to admire from afar, so I don't know
but can a horse be "trained" not to get spooked? I live near a horse pasture
where I sometimes feed the horses carrots. Simply snapping the carrots in half
has spook them. I have posted this question on the "Sharing the PCT" forum
twice, but so far, no response. As much as I know about horses (i.e. nothing)
it seems ridiculous to suggest a horse can be trained not to be spooked. Am I
wrong?

Stephanie

I would hardly consider myself a skilled horseman, but
I ride not infrequently in the context of trail
maintenance trips. The concept of meeting a bike at
speed is terrifying.
