Sitting at the airport in San Diego contemplating my adjustment into our American culture. Due to circumstances of life, I was unable to have a traditional thru hike. I was a little worried about hiking southern California not having any previous experience. After a thirty six hour bus ride I walked out of Vons in Big Bear and was greeted by Eric. Eric drove me to the Hostel and then the trail the next morning. Ziggy and the Bear loved on me and after a great lunch prepared me for the desert. Tom picked me up at Idyllwild and Cindy at Paradise Cafe made sure I was well fed. Dave and Valerie invited me to their Sunday evening cookout. Tom took me back to the trail. Super Dave of Mt. Laguna Sports met me at the third gate water cache. We endured the ONE day of rain in 150 days. He made me soup and put me back on the trail. Zak made me grilled sausages and walked with me back to the trail at Cibbits Flat. Charlie and family asked if I wanted shampoo and soap at Lake Morena Park. Best of all Scout and Frodo picked me at the Monument so there was someone to share my bawling with. Thanks to all the special people who make up this awesome community! You rock.....    Mark Trail
