I did a loop out of Horseshoe Meadows in 2009 over Trail Pass down to
Kern Canyon and up to Lake South America, over the pass to Tyndall
Creek, and then back along the PCT to Trail Pass. We got a permit that
didn't require us to carry a canister. Our permit said we were going
from bear box to bear box.
At the trailhead aforest service intern challenged us, but finally
backed down when we showed him our permit.
Get the permit in hand...

Is there anybody that can clarify whether this is legal or not, since I seem to always be the one that gets caught and nailed for bending the rules. I checked the governing body's website and it says that it is required to carry and properly use a bear canister, which leads me to believe that i can be stopped and sited for not having one in my backpack. Just want to be sure. Thanks.
