[pct-l] Water Sources (Rte 94 in Campo) to Lake Moreno Drive

Good morning, Steven,

In dry years I’ve started from the border with 4-5 liters, and arrived at
Morena mid-afternoon without replenishment but with plenty of water
remaining.  That’s when there was no interest in the “creeklet” and no
water at Hauser Creek.  If I had had to stop to camp in that section I
would have probably used it all.

>From the standpoint of weight management the ideal is to begin well
hydrated and arrive – wherever – empty and thirsty.  With a reasonably
early start I drink very little for about 5 miles.  That portion of the
trail is generally not steep; then the last 1.5 miles down to Hauser Creek
is easy downhill.  If I could rely upon Hauser water I would only begin
with about 2 liters.

High demand for water is usually on the 1,000-foot climb north out of the
Hauser Canyon.  That’s a hot, wide-open, southern aspect, and it’s usually
encountered after noon.  Once out of the canyon the trail is rolling-flat
until the downhill to Morena where there's plenty of good water for
re-hydration.
