For what it is worth, I carried an Asahi Pentax 35mm camera on my 1980 thru-hike. I didn't weigh it. I also carried a wide-angle lens in addition to enough 35 mm film (Kodachrome and Ektachrome) to get me to the next supply drop. Plus, I also carried what at the time was leading-edge technology: Pentax small factor single lens reflex that took 110 film cartridges. Of course, by today's standard I would be considered a "heavy trucker."
