HI TORTOISE,
I still have a 1953 worn and tattered edition of Walter A. Starr's "Guide to the John Muir Trail and High Sierra Region". I have had it since it first became available in 1953 - the date of copyright. It is the first edition. It has been along on many, many, of my Sierra backpacking and climbing trips. It was my guidebook when I hiked the JMT in 1957. I would never part with it. It is precious.

I still have two editions -- the 11th revised edition (1970) and the 12th
revised edition (date unknown) which I found waterlogged on the JMT,
