Maxine is correct.  I regularly go up to Kennedy Meadows to camp/hike and it is very easy to find, and almost impossible to not find.  Take 395 S and make a right on J41 (the sign will say "kennedy meadows" or something close to that with the mileage).  If you are pulling a trailer I would highly recommend scanning the roads up ahead for travelers coming down during your ascent up 9 mile canyon road because there are a few sections of the road that narrow to "room for one" that are located at hairpin turns, with a rock wall on one side, and a drop off on another.  Also watch for rocks because although they clear it regularly, they fall on the road regularly as well.  Once you get past the 9 mile canyon section it is smooth sailing and a beautiful drive through the kern plateau.

Here is an interactive satellite map of the area.  http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/california_06187/map_41b3.htm
I didn't prepare it and I should note a correction on it.  Where it says Kennedy Meadows in bold yellow is not where the campground nor the general store is located.  Drag and move down and to the right following sherman pass road until you can see the south fork of the kern river (its hard to miss) and you will see a yellow arrow and "turn here".  If you zoom in you will see beach meadow road and the general store.  Also, some of the sections that look like roads are either dirt roads or ohv trails.  It really is hard to take a wrong turn up here if you stay on the pavement.

If you are going to be spending the night up there and are looking for a beautiful place to stay I would recommend the approx. 30 minute drive past the general store to a campground called Troy Meadows.  It is situated at 7800 ft. with a beautiful meadow, plenty of trees, it isn't as hot or dry as kennedy meadows, and the creek that runs through it contains wild golden trout if you are into fly fishing.

I hope this helps you find your way.
Best,
Chris Anderson

Whoa!  That was NOT the directions to Kennedy Meadows Gen. Store on that google map.  Perhaps that's where their mail goes to in Inyokern.  I believe you go south on 395 and just turn right on J41 to get to KM.

You might want to try to contact Tom Figueroa at hikethepct-km.com.  He lives up there and is a trail angel extraordinaire, met him at the kickoff--great guy.  Or call the people who run the store itself.

Good Luck!
