[pct-l] postholer pocket maps vs halfmile maps?

Loading Halfmile's POIs over Garmin's PCT microSD on a good GPS ( I assume
it has to be a Garmin) is a tough act to follow. It is the best way to "see"
what is coming and how far it is. Every point is tagged with info if there
is any.
GPS mapping is vastly more accurate than any map and compass combo. Quality
GPS units, like the Garmin 62s I use, are significantly tougher than any
compass made. If you drop a compass its accuracy becomes suspect, at best.
If you drop a quality GPS it is just going to get dirty. Any drop that would
damage a GPS would destroy pretty much any compass.
A spare set of lithium batteries for mine weigh 30 g. I've used mine for a
couple of months now on the original set of batteries. If you just turn it
on, find out what you want to know, then turn it back off the batteries will
last for months. One spare set will probably get you through the entire
trail. Or just have another set sent in a box.
The unit has a remaining battery life meter so you pretty much always know
what that situation is.
I know a lot of people on this list will strongly disagree with me and that
is as it should be. But I will match map and compass skills with anyone.

Subject: [pct-l] postholer pocket maps vs halfmile maps?
Hey everyone,
Gonna be wrapping up the Pacific Crest Trail this summer and hopefully
hiking all of Washington. I'm stoked! I'm trying to make a decision on
what maps to use. I know all about Halfmile's maps from my 2011 thru-hike
attempt, and I know they're awesome. I'm interested in using Postholer's
PCT pocket maps, but don't know much about them. Anybody out there have any
experience/opinions/advice on using postholer's maps as opposed to
halfmile's? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.
