September is the finest month in the Sierra Nevada. The monsoons and bugs of July are gone, as are the afternoon thunderstorms of August. Water is never an issue in the Sierra. Whitney will be clear.

The days are a bit shorter, and there is a bit more chill in the air at night. A 20 degree bag might be a good idea. A 32 degree bag might be a bit cold for you.

The unfortunate thing for thrus is that they miss the best time of year in the Sierra.

Good luck,
Gary

Any one think this sounds like a really super or really silly idea? What does Mt. Whitney tend to look like by the last week of September? Water? Reading beyond jmt.org and The Essential Guide? Aug. 27 is the earliest date I could reasonably expect to hit the trail. Thoughts?
