Patagonia Torrentshell: I bought one, it works well in rain, but fits a bit
tighter in the usual medium size Pats I buy. What I don't like is the hood,
it's too small, with not enough awning. I like the pit zips. Consider the
Pat Rain Shadow, it's a bit sturdier, better H2O zippers, bigger hood. I
prefer jackets with a larger hood, ones that maybe take a helmet, so when
the wind and rain steps up to a hurricane force, like I met on the Goat
Rocks razor back ridge in 2008, I can snug and twist it to wind so my eyes
and ears are protected. I wouldn't want to use the Torrentshell in high
winds. The coat I wore that howling day in the Goats is my favorite coat
and is a Patagonia Specter anorak, 8oz, and of course it isn't made any
more. I haven't been wet yet in this coat in 7yrs. I just bought a spare
Specter on ebay this weekend! I don't like the Marmot Precip, have one, and
the white H2O liner has completely worn off. It's the beater coat I take
when I know it won't rain; it'sgreat for catching burn holes when standing
around the campfire.
