Mike,

I'm a music junky too and I wouldn't think about leaving my music player
behind. I can remember making the long haul to the top of a summit or
pass when a one of my favorite songs started playing as I crested, it
was twice the pleasure. Audio books are great too, the miles seems to
fly by as I was listening to the audio book of The Hobbit.

If you are looking for new music I would suggest Pandora there is a free
version and for $36/yr a commercial free version and there is an app for
your PC and Smartphone. When you entry some of your favorite bands or
musicians Pandora's software will play new artists and songs based on
what your likes are, you also have the option to tag a song or buy it.
I found it very effective and over the last year I have found a lot of
new music. If you haven't heard of the The Sheepdogs, Fleet Foxes, Bon
Iver or The Black Keys you might want to check them out. For a few
blood pumping songs check out the first few tracks of Titus Andronicus's
album The Monitor.

A good website for new music is NPR's All Songs Considered
http://www.npr.org/programs/all-songs-considered/ there's so much music
there it is a bit overwhelming. You can Podcast a lot of there
concerts, reviews and songs of the day and make sure you check out there
Tiny Desk Concerts, which are informal mini concerts behind Bob Boilen's
desk. suggestion

Howdy All, Ive seen alot of people who end up hiking without music
because they need to conserve power on there smartphones. I go with
cheap triple A powered mp3 players(no video),I can hike at least two
to three 12 hour days on a single energizer max. The power of music
should not be overlooked,it can be a huge boost to a slow day.
Anyhow, these are the dog days of prep, and I wanna help fill out those
playlists for the 2012 class. These can be your favorite songs, but im
looking for songs that get your blood pumping, the hair standing on
your neck. Heres a start, Im On Fire by B Springsteen, The Secret Sun
by J Harris, 10000 Fists by Disturbed, River Of Deceit by Mad Season,
On The Turning Away by Pink Floyd, Duality by Slipknot, Black Balloon
by Goo Goo Dolls, Build A Bridge by Limp Bizkit, Hard Sun by Eddie
Vedder, and Blaze Of Glory by Bon Jovi. Thanks All. P.S. Im such a
music junky,I copy all my music onto a memory card, just to make sure
im covered. The PCT is no place to try and download music.
