Sorry, Halfmile, I didn't  mean to ring the alarm bell over post office closures.  Nor am I getting ready for a thru-hike this year.  I was making a point about the availability of accurate information in the Guide Book that is more than adequate to plan a trip with.

That does not mean I'm against using tools like Yogi's book or Halfmile's maps or whatever else.  I just mean to say relying on the guidebooks won't lead to the mahem some think it will.  And if some make enough to pay for "research expeditions" so be it.

And Jackass, (I love writting that as though I'm getting away with something dirty) I did the trip in 93 with just the guide book and didn't miss a single package.  Yes I did spend an afternoon on the phone confirming what few private addresses there were back then, but there weren't that many.  I think I even wrote a letter or two (Oh, the humanity!).  In all honesty I didn't resupply at San Gorgonio pass.  It just wasn't neccessary.  I understand some people re-supply more frequently now days, but I just didn't want to loose more time to more town-stops, nero or zero days, and spend more money.

Charles,
The Cabazon Post Office has not closed. The only PCT post office still
in danger of closing is in Castella.
Cabazon is a sometimes a difficult 4 mile hitch. You might consider
the new trail angel near Cabazon. See my info here:
http://www.pctnews.com/2012/a-summary-of-pacific-crest-trail-updates-for-2012-416/
or here:
http://www.pctmap.net/trailnotes/index.html
or on my maps.
-Halfmile

ps - I think various emails referencing the Pink Motel are referencing
the Wilderness Press Data Book.
