All we had decades ago was the "Bible", not the "Book of Lies" and very rarely did we hear about people being "dead, maimed, or still lost". Yes, we got everything we needed including resupply information, trail description, mileage points, reliable water sources, and maps in the Bible and it was the only source of information available. I met lots of people that thought they could do better, but none did. And if you really want to know anything about the valleys, ridges, and peaks you're traveling through it is still a very useable tool.
Of course this was the time before Spot's "Help" button, GPS, cell phones, and water caches. And it was before the "herd" and speed attemps or records. Angels were to be reveered, not used. It was really a simple time that I long for.
I'm just saying it's not as difficult as some want you to believe and we did just fine oblivious to our "without" status. How difficult is it to read the two paragraphs pertaining to re-supply at the beginning of each chapter while at home packing boxes?

Good afternoon!

books, except that I probably would be dead, maimed, or still lost."
