[pct-l] HYOH- campfires

Brick,
Do any of the alcohol "stoves" have a on/off valve. I saw a guy pour alcohol into a soda can and light it. I couldn't see the flame. I think it just kept burning until the alcohol was used up. That's why I am opposed to that kind of "stove".  - - - no shut off valve --- invisable flame  --- light weight ( can blow away if there is a sudden gust of wind ). Wouldn't that be considered an "open flame" according to regulations? Someone on this list suggested that adding salt to the alcohol would result in a yellow (or was it blue) flame. At least you could see it - but that does not address the other two problems. Canister stoves only weigh a little more, heat faster, the flame can be turned down to simmer, or simply shut off. Being a little heavier (combined with the canister), they are less likely to be blown over in a wind gust. My Jetboil weighs only 5.7 ounces.

The basic rule for something to be a "stove" in the burn ban areas is
if it has a on on/off valve.

In really dry times, even stoves are banned, anything with an open flame
