Amanda:

I agree with the others who have given the advice to wear men's shoes. I 
am a woman's size 8 1/2 and wear a men's size 9 1/2 to hike in. I use a 
high volume padded insole from Yoursoles and also wear a thin nylon 
liner sock inside of my regular socks. I used to wear women's shoes, but 
they were causing too much foot pain and exacerbated a bunion. My bunion 
is actually starting to disappear now that I wear men's shoes that have 
wider toe boxes.
