[pct-l] fishing opportunities

Timothy,

Deep Creek, in Section D, will have pretty good trout fishing. Also, when I looked into pools in Holcomb Creek, as I rode by, I saw lots of trout - mostly 7" to 10" long. I was wishing I had along a rod and reel so I could catch dinner. But I'm not sure it would be worth bringing fiching tackle for just that area. There are no other places on the PCT, that I know of, until you reach the Kern watershed in the Sierra. From there on north you will have many opportunities to fish. One tip, be sure to bring along barbless hooks if you want to spend much time fishing. My experience last summer was that I could catch dinner with very few casts. All I brought was lures with treble hooks. I could not release trout without killing them - so I did not do as much fishing as I would have wanted to. I would catch dinner with very few casts and then would have to stop fishing.  Benson Lake in Yosemite was great - five casts, two nice trout. Then I stopped.

Have a great hike.

I'll be flying into San diego on April 25 and I'll probably go
straight to Lake Morena for the KO before I start my thru.  That gives me
two days to bum around the lake and fish.  My question: is it worth it to
pack and carry my rod and reel through the southern CA section?  How many
chances will I have to use it? (I plan on a leisurely pace, so time's not
so much a factor.)
