"he could fatten his thighs as much as he pleased on whey"
The Odyssey
Homer
When resupply means night swimming under an Athenian blockade, dragging your
food behind you in a skin bag and capture is a death sentence, the Spartans
chose bruised flaxseed mixed with honey. This according to Thucydides in
his history of the Peloponnesian War. You thought your resupply was tough.
Not sure how this applies to thru hiking.
