It does not matter if it's sprint, att, tmobile, etc. Not with using the phone as a GPS anyway. Obviously, some carriers will have better reception along the trail. What does matter is that some phones have better GPS than others. Do a google search to see if your phone has a not so good GPS before using it on the trail.

How about using "Backcountry Navigator for Android" as an app instead of HalfMile's app and download Halfmile's waypoints?

I still have a Sprint dumb phone and my contract runs out in March. I then plan on getting an ATT's Samsung Rugby Pro.
So,..... I hope y'all figure this all out, tell the rest of us the perfect system, and publish proper instructions that even my Granddad can follow :)

Has anyone used a Sprint phone for this purpose??

I have a new, fancy Android phone (Galaxy S3) and a couple of questions to
go with it.

1. Are there any versions of Halfmile's or Guthook's apps for Android, or
are they only for iPhone? Anyone know if these might be available for the
2013 thru-hiking season?

According to David Lippke, Halfmile's programmer, there will be an android
version of Halfmile's app by the 2013 season.  I'm eagerly awaiting it
myself...
