[pct-l] Study: Nature Nurtures Creativity After Four Days of Hiking

The problem I see with this conclusion is that there is an apparent conflation of causation with correlation by the authors. The study does not appear to control for the effects of exercise as being a causative factor, and, if so, to what degree. In addition, the size of the group, level of group interactions, etc. should also be weighted with individual and small groups included to see whether isolation plays a role.

It seems to me that absent a discussion of these, and possibly other, factors that are clearly present in hiking that limiting it to the artificiality and constant stimulation of our culture the study is of limited utility. Certainly one of the most enjoyable things in hiking are those aha moments as your subconscious beavers away while your conscious mind enjoys the view that unreels before you as you hike.
