[pct-l] An overnight on the Angeles Crest

Two times this last summer, escaping the heat of the basin below, I was up
on the Angeles Crest at a place I discovered years back while on my way to
British Columbia. On State HWY 2 park at Islip Saddle, 6,670' where the
PCT crosses the highway. Walk up the moderately graded switchbacks along
the PCT southbound for a few hundred yards, whereupon the grade flattens a
bit through dense Jeffrey Pines and white fir. After a mile you cross a dirt
road, then another mile to Little Jimmy campground, 7525' - picnic tables,
fire pits, latrines and level sites. A maintained spring awaits you up
trail a few hundred yards. Another couple hundred yards and you reach Windy
Gap, ca 7650' and a sitting bench overlooking the Los Angeles basin. Two
ways to climb Mt Islip, 8,250'. One way is from the sitting bench, Another
way leads off southeast from the campground where it joins up with the other
route above Windy Gap. Either way, the hike to the summit from the
campground is about 2 1/2 miles. It's one of those areas when trekking through,
if you had more time, you'd want to stick around. Have fun. Hal "Green
Hornet" Margolis.

OurPCT hero, Grizzly, goes down to his local trailtownsaloon to talk to
any hikers in town.

He notices a hot woman who waves at him and says, "Hello."

Grizzly is a little surprised and walks up and says, "Do you knowme?"

To which she replies in a soft sexy voice, "I think you're the father
ofone of my kids".

Quickly Grizzly thinks back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful
to hisgirlfriend and then wife, TrailDust.

"My God, are you the stripper from my bachelor party that I had on thepool
table with all my buddies watching & cheering us on?"

She replied, "Noooooooo, but I am your son's teacher."

Does anyone have a favorite spot to take an overnight trip in or near
Angeles crest. I'm taking a friend on his first overnight trip but i
myself have never done an overnight in that range. We've got the gear
and we hike together a ton so we don't want it too easy. Something
with great views. Preferably covering all kinds of terrain but would
love if there was a summit somewhere along the lines.

I just discovered the NB 730. I think it is similar to the Minimus. I
found it at Sport's Authority for only $60. Practically zero-drop
(3mm). Soles are not super thin but they are very minimal. Very
generous toebox with no arch support and a nice snugness around the
foot so you don't slip around. Has the minimus <=> logo thingie on
the inside. For street running but I wore them on a backpack trip on
trail that wasn't too overgrown (most of the time) and they worked
very well. Sadly, these ARE going to be discontinued. I hate shoe
manufacturers.

2011 KO.

Reinhold Metzger<einholdmetzger at cox.net

Sunday May 29 16:26:59 CDT 2011

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi gang,
Cruising around at the KO I ran into Warner Spring Monte......he says
"a girl has been looking for you".
That did not surprise me....they are always looking for me.
I ask, "was it Melanie or Sugar Moma"?
Monte responds..."she did not give her name....but she said you
fathered her child".

WHAT??????????......FATHERED HER CHILD???????

But that would not surprise me neither.....I have been known to do that
once or twice.
But hey,.....I'm 70 and don't remember fathering any children lately.
But, with advanced age comes Alzheimer.....hhhhmmmm....let's see now....
could it have been Melanie or Sugar Moma?
Naahh,....not Melanie or Sugar Moma, I did not know them long
enough.....although, sometimes these things happen really quick.
What about Josephine....or Gabriella....or Pamella?.....hhhmmm.....I
have to think about that.

Who could that be?....I really would like to meet that gal.

So I go around the KO asking all the striking good looking "babes" (it had
to be a striking good looking babe)...."DID I FATHER YOUR CHILD"?

They just gave me that dirty look like I'm some kind of weirdo.

Well anyhow, I never did find that gal.....I really would like to meet her.
This has me all stressed out......so, If anybody on the list knows who
that gal is, please let me know as soon as possible.

JMT Reinhold
Your stressed out trail companion
