After badly spraining my ankle on the CDT, 6 miles from the nearest
4wheel drive access, I'm a convert to carrying painkillers more powerful
than vitamin I or naprosin. I was able to walk 6 miles on the ankle
with a tree branch as cane after a couple hours of soaking it in a
spring and letting the pain meds - vicodin - take effect. It ruined the
trip of course, but I can still hike!!!
