Another strategy you might try is toe socks.  Regular socks on the AT - blisters.  Toe socks and a thin calf-high oversock on the PCT - no blisters.

The large toe box on men's shoes will really help the toe blisters.  Also, 
be sure to clean your toes often (perhaps at every break).  I think people 
forget that sweat will make your skin sticky - including your toes. 
 Cleaning the dirt/sweat from my toes helps to prevent the between-the-toe 
blisters.
