The shoe size increase has been permanent for me - but then I haven't
stopped hiking. I went up from a women's 9 - 9.5 to a 10. While hiking, I
wear men's size 10, which is even larger than the women's size 10. I find
that the larger size men's shoe drastically reduces blisters, plus men's
shoes have a much wider toe box.
