[pct-l] Long distance hiking, work and lifestyle

I'm a nurse practitioner and self- employed now. I wasn't when I thru- hiked with my son. I had saved $ from consulting work I'd done on the side and took 6 months between jobs to thru-hike. I was a single mom and waited until the last one graduated from HS--he's the one who hiked with me. Oddly enough, I also got married about a month before we hit the trail, but my husband knew from our first date that I had 2005 dedicated to the PCT. He became Mission Control and was wonderful (and still is)!

I also enjoy anytime in the outdoors nearly as much as a long hike. I travel a lot for work and have managed to hike in many states and countries! I may or may not do another thru hike. Right now I do dog walks, day hikes, weekends, snowshoe and the occasional week or two. It's all good!

When my kids were small, we day-hiked, car camped and later backpacked together. I was the high adventure coordinator for my son's scout troop and became a Leave No Trace master educator, all great ways to spend time outdoors when a long distance hike is out of reach. My husband and I moved last year and now we live on a river surrounded by mountains. Heaven.

There are many options to creating a meaningful life and I'm so grateful I've had the chance to meet the amazingly diverse people who love the PCT.
