[pct-l] Long Distance Hikers and $

I am not living the high life of long distance hiking yet, but I have found
a couple jobs that will help with the lifestyle.
I recently completed a Seasonal Law Enforcement program to be a Law
Enforcemtn Officer at the National Parks. It is seasonal work so I can enjoy
1/2 the year doing what I want, which is currently skiing:) The problem I
found with this career choice is that it is really hard to get a LEO job
without a Paramedic or Fire or Military background. Last winter I started
applying for park jobs at probably 60 National Parks, Reserves, Memorials
and I didn't get a summer job. I have a couple more years to use this
certification before it expires, but I can see the perk of employment
working some of the most beautiful places the US has to offer.
My other career is the Ski Resort Industry. From November to May I work full
time skiing. The perk of this is I get the summers to hike, the downfall it
isn't a very lucrative job. So what I've had to do is work a year and a half
for 6 months off.
Just a couple suggestions for seasonal employment to allow for the longer
breaks required for long distance hiking.
