[pct-l] awful trail shoes

I also wear men's shoes for hiking. Here in the other world, I wear women's
size 10. I suppose you could call that my "normal" size. When hiking, I
wear men's size 10. Men's shoes have a larger toe box. That helps to allow
my feet to breathe, reducing friction, and pretty much eliminating blisters.

As for inserts, I have custom orthotics. After finishing the CDT with foot
pain, I visited a podiatrist. That's when I got the orthotics. They're
molded to my exact foot shape, and these changed my life! My foot pain was
eliminated. They're expensive - if I remember correctly it was about $400,
and that was in 2004. Well worth the money!

At the beginning of this thread, the original poster mentioned "breaking in"
her shoes. I don't believe in breaking in shoes. If they don't feel right
at the store, then they are not the correct shoe for you. There should be
no breaking in. Your shoes should be comfortable enough to wear from day
one.
