[pct-l] awful trail shoes

I bought a pair of Keen hiking shoes in 2008 which came apart after 300 miles. I contacted Keen, took pictures of where the shoes fell apart and chose a pair of regular 'dress' shoes as a replacement. Imagine my surprise when the brown Mary Janes I chose arrived in black!
The Keen shoes tore up my feet. They sure were comfortable in the store, but on the trail, I had blisters everywhere. At Mazama, I soaked my feet in zip bags with ice cubes. I met someone else on the trail who had the same model in boots. Her feet were also torn up.
Lost and Found
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, Guinness in one hand, steak in the other, yell 'Holy Sh**, What a Ride!"

My wife was looking at these at Cabella's here in Phoenix. Good to know
they aren't any good before she bought them!
Probably better for you anyway in the long run... the ad clearly states
they are for warm, dry climates (then why in the world would they call
them "Shasta"?)... and this year especially, with the possible
exceptions of the desert crossing and the few days between Campo and
Laguna, the PCT is far from "warm" and "dry" ;)
It sucks to be breaking in new shoes with only a week to go though....

I bought them two months prior to my trail departure to break them in and they already started falling apart! The back of the shoe where the heal rubs against wore away immediately and exposed sharp wire and a rough material begging for blisters. Now i'm back to square one breaking in a new pair of shoes to start the trail in less than a week. Not looking forward to blisters....
