This was not a SOBO Pct hiker. He came out of the Darrington area on a
couple of day hiking trip. Like with the snow he encountered, the PCT is not
ready for anyone. There is still close to 100" of snow on all the passes
that the PCT crosses up here. It is still snowing up high and plenty of
recent avalanches. Usual start time for SOBO is around June 15th. Watch your
snow levels at Harts, Rainy, Steven's and Snoqualmie Passes to gage when you
should start. You are not as tough or experienced as you may think when you
can not find the trail. Also, as the snow starts to melt the rivers and
creeks become raging death traps up here. There's nothing cool about being
lost or dead.
