"The PCT-L is comprised of a mature, relatively close community." Being on several similar lists, I can say that this is a pretty naive statement. You might wish it to be so, but none of us has any idea whether it in fact is! :)

Subject: [pct-l] Posting names/Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

The problem goes beyond names and location, and into the realm of PII. Recently I sent a private, off-list e-mail to a regular PCT-L contributor to discuss an up coming event. Within that e-mail I included contact information in the event he/she wished to discuss the matter vs. a back and forth series of e-mails. In their reply he/she CC: the PCT-L and a Yahoo group blog. Now that information is there for the world to see with a simple search. The problem as I see it is that there is no real recourse. The PCT-L administrator can not delete the post and there is no moderation. While this was an unintentional error the damage is done.

The PCT-L is comprised of a mature, relatively close community. My vote is to move forward with a more modern forum software package where moderators can insure inappropriate posts are properly vetted. Also, with modern software, when an inadvertent error occurs, the originator can edit the misstep. Just my 2-cents. And if you are good at searching you can find this personal information and call so we might discuss in person!

Finally, I volunteer to be a moderator....
