My 2 cents on this issue. If you don't want to be found on the trail, that's easy enough to accomplish. Even the people best suited to find hikers -- other hikers -- often find it hard. As an example, I know of only a few hikers who have ever met Rocketgirl, despite her trail ledger sign-ins and accounts of people bumping into her while night-hiking. Iron Chef (PCT 2002)
