I tired the "free map" route last year and after a day or two of
frustration I ordered the Garmin TOPO from Amazon. I checked and it is $3
or so cheaper this year than when I bought last May.

Keep in mind that it like seemingly all such map packages has inaccuracies
-- both showing stuff that isn't there and may have never actually existed
as well as roads, etc. which have been abandoned or removed.
