That is correct.  I should have said small scale or perhaps large view as
Chuck describes.  Clarity is a good thing.

Can't resist...Im a GeoGeek / cartographer. A large scale map for
hiking purposes would be more on the order of 1:24,000. Definitely not
1:500,000. "Large scale" means things appear large. Sounds like you
need small scale maps.
