I wish I had had my Kahtoola aluminum crampons for the San Jacintos, let alone Big Bear. Check out the conditions before you start, but all the snow gear we used in the Sierra, ice axes and crampons or microspikes were applicable for the Southern Mountains as well. But that's because there was so much snow. Maybe we'll have a melt off before KO. Who knows. Shroomer
