Hello JoAnn,

Definately bring the option of long sleeves.  Not just because of insects - at the higher elevations the ultra violet from the sun can burn your arms.

I brought ExOfficio "Buzz Off" insect repellent clothes. They are very effective in keeping the insects off. The mosquitoes won't land on the cloth. I wore them for five months while riding my horse between Mexico and Canada. I brought the socks, pants, shirt and the cap with cape to protect my neck and ears. I used very little insect repellent in buggy areas - just on my cheeks, forehead (I have a beard), and on the back of my hands.

The shirt design is really special in that the sleeves are DETACHABLE - SO YOU CAN HAVE SHORT SLEEVES WHEN YOU WANT THEM.  The breast pockets are jumbo size and expand outward.

Yow can look this product up on line and they are sold by REI.

Have a good hike,

MendoRider

Has anyone any recent experience with all the nasty flying things in CA Section R and Oregon A? Are long sleeves needed?
