Howdie,

Great to hear you are looking at 2012 - I think its going to be an
awesome year to hike the PCT!!

I have bought well over $3000 worth of tents over the last two years
(in a quest for my favorite two tents and one tarp) and I would say
that the top two fully enclosed tents for UL/SUL would be:

#1 - ZPacks Hexamid Solo Tarp & HexaNet Solo Bug Shelter

#2 - Hyperlite Mountain Gear Echo I Ultralight Modular Shelter

My full review of the ZPacks setup is at:

A full review of the HMG setup is at:

I have an HMG Echo I up for sale (

) if that interests you.

I tend to think that any tent over two pounds is to heavy, but that is just me.

If you cannot afford the ZPacks or HMG check out the "TarpTent Rainbow
Solo" ( http://www.tarptent.com/rainbow.html ) I think it is a much
better tent than the BA Seedhouse. The TarpTent Moment is rather
popular too, but if I am going to be hauling a TarpTent I prefer the
few extra ounces of the Rainbow for the massive amount of more room
inside of it.

As for looking for a hiking partner... I will leave others to comment
on that... but the general answer is "don't bother... hiking partners
that are not direct family rare work out".

Look forward to hearing more from you as you progress through the
stages to your hike next year!

> Hello. Im preparing to thru-hike the PCT Southbound 2012. As i have been looking into ultralight tents, i have found so many to choose from and thought the best recommendations would come from hikers! Im looking into the Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 coming in at 2lbs 3oz....It seems like an extremely light tent for me, but if anyone has better recommendations for an enclosed tent- not tarp shelter or bivy. Thank you!
