Made it to South Lake Tahoe. The section between Sonora Pass and here had no dangerous fords and fewer snowbound miles, but there's still a lot of snow out there. Wish I hadn't sent my traction devices home from Bridgeport. The snow can be very slick in the morning. A GPS would be very helpful for following the trail.
 
Stayed at Super8 in South Lake Tahoe, $60 a night for 2 people. However, much cheaper deals are available through HotelCoupons.com, or pick up a copy of their Travel Coupon Guide at IHOP in South Lake Tahoe. Maybe the visitor's center has this publication, too? Coupons for South Lake Tahoe: $35 for 1-2 people at Rodeway Inn (private beach, free breakfast); Days Inn $39 for 1-2 people Sun-Thurs. (free breakfast); Travel Inn $32 for 1-2 people Sun-Thurs. Several hotel coupons for Reno, too. 
 
For couples, there is a place in South Lake Tahoe called Fantasy Inn at 3696 Lake Tahoe Blvd. From Sunday through Thursday, you can rent one of their "Princess Rooms" with a private hot tub in your room, two night minimum for $69/night or $89 for one night. If you want to want to get hitched after you hitch in, they also host weddings performed by an on-sight minister who works at the front desk. You can walk in and take a look at some rather interesting themed rooms if they're unoccupied. Themes include Romeo and Juliet, Rain Forest (really cool), Roman, Queen's Quarters, Marie Antoinette (beware of the guillotine), Graceland, Arabian Nights, Mystic Mountain, Penthouse, Caesar's Indulgence, Royal, and for honeymooners... the Anthony and Cleopatra Suite.
 
Excellent all you can eat Indian lunch buffet for $9.99 at Nikki's Chaat Cafe, 3469 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Great for vegetarians and anybody who wants to eat a lot of delicious foods. Accommodates vegans and people with gluten allergies. There are also Chinese buffets in town. Safeway has coupons for IHOP on the back side of cash register receipts.
